Books for Change: Empowering Girls Through Literacy and Advocacy
Welcome to Goal Women Africa’s “Books for Change” initiative! We are excited to introduce a transformative program designed to foster literacy, build community, and empower secondary school girls in rural areas.
Our Vision
At Goal Women Africa, we believe in the power of education and community to drive positive change. “Books for Change” aims to create a supportive environment where young girls can not only improve their literacy skills but also gain the confidence to speak out about critical issues affecting their lives.
Program Overview
Books for Change is a book club initiative specifically tailored for secondary school girls in rural areas. Our goals are twofold:
Encourage Literacy
By providing access to a wide range of books, we aim to foster a love of reading and improve literacy skills among young girls. Reading not only enhances academic performance but also broadens perspectives and nurtures critical thinking.
Empower Through Advocacy
2.The book club serves as a safe community where girls can openly discuss issues of sexual harassment and abuse. With the support of their schools, these discussions aim to raise awareness, provide peer support, and educate girls about their rights and available resources.
Program Activities
Monthly Book Discussions
●Each month, club members will receive a book to read and discuss. These discussions will be facilitated by trained mentors who guide conversations, ensuring they are both engaging and educational.
Workshops and Seminars
Regular workshops will be conducted to address topics such as sexual harassment, abuse prevention, and self-advocacy. These sessions aim to empower girls with knowledge and strategies to protect themselves and support each other.
School Collaborations
We work closely with schools to ensure they are supportive environments for these discussions. Schools provide safe spaces for meetings and resources to help girls feel secure and heard.
